Resume Tips
We know many people have not been on the job market for quite some time and they may need to polish their resume, so we have collected the basic information that should be included on any resume.  We have also found several web sites that offer guidelines and even resume writing services.  Please take a moment to go through the list below. We have even included a list of things that should never appear on your resume.  We hope this information helps to make your resume the best it can be.

We have divided the basics into two categories: ALWAYS  (information that should definitely be on every resume) & NEVER (information that should never be on any resume).  Please read through both lists to ensure your resume looks its best.
1)   Your Proper Name - no nicknames

2)   Your Permanent Address - including Street, City, State and Zip Code

3)   Phone Numbers - Home, Pager, Cell - you should only  include your work
number when necessary.

4)   Your Email Address - many employers prefer to respond to your resume via
         email.

5)   Your Objective - this should always be tailored to each position you apply for.

Depending on your amount of work experience you may need to switch numbers 6 & 8.  For those with work experience you should list your employment before education.  For those with little work experience and a more recent education you should list your education first.

6)  Experience - should alwasy be listed in reverse chronological order (last position
first and first position last).  When listing past employment there are certain
points that should always catch the eye of your prosective employer.
A) Dates of Employment
B)  Company, City, State
C)  Position
D)  Job Description - when listing your duties keep in mind it is best to list
them highest priority first and least priority last.
* If you have insurance experience you should also include: types of Products worked with, Size of Accounts, and what line of insurance (ie. Personal Lines, Commercial Lines, Claims, or Life and Health).

This next segment is where you can highlight any special skills or qualifications you have that are needed for the position you are applying for.  Of course if you would rather you could list any licenses or certifications you may hold.

7)   Special Skills / Qualifications or Licenses / Certifications  - be sure to include
the number of years you have had the skills /qualifications or the year in which
         you earned the license/certification.
* This is also the best place to show off your computer software knowledge

8)   Education - as with your employment, your education should be listed with your             most recent first.  Employers want to know some basic information  such as....
A)  Year of graduation or course completion
B)   School, City, State
C)   Area of Study - ie. completed degree program, diploma or course focus

9)  References - you should never inlcude someone as a reference unless you have               discussed it with them prior to submitting your resume.  Create your list of
references on a seperate page and include a notation on your resume  that
          references are available upon request.
